Lisa Strömbeck recreates her installation, "Resting place," at Sparwasser HQ.
The video installation is intended to be viewed through the window, from the street outside the gallery. Originally, "Resting place" was constructed as a shed within a larger room. At that time, the viewer was invited to lie down on a mattress, to rest together with the sleeping animals pictured on surrounding monitors. This summer, as you pass Sparwasser HQ, you are reminded that besides your daily obligations, just once in a while, you ought spend your time doing nothing but resting!

In the gallery, three dogs and one cat are shown sleeping, one each on four video monitors. These animals are pets, the strange kind of animal that people buy, raise, and socialize. We perceive these animals somewhere between nature and culture.

Swedish artist Lisa Strömbeck is a familiar figure in the Berlin art-scene. She gave an artist talk at Sparwasser HQ in Summer 2000 and participated in the group exhibition We want to believe. Her work was exhibited at Art Forum Berlin, by gallery Tommy Lund, in both 1999 and 2000. She was a guest student at the Babelsberg Film School in 1999.
