Art in General and the Goethe-Institut join forces to present the New York City premiere of Old Habits Die Hard, a video project organized by Heman Chong and Lise Nellemann for the Berlin artists-run space Sparwasser HQ. This presentation is part of Art in General's 2005 video program to be held in February 5 - March 26, 2005.

Fifty artist-run spaces and artist's networks were invited by the organizers, to submit what they considered the best video art work they have encountered. Old Habits Die Hard locates and maps fifty international artist's collectives and networks operating today, with fifty video works by international artists. As part of the project, the organizers Chong/Nellemann also created an online catalog that includes notes on the videos, information on the artists, and a database with links to the participating artist-run spaces and networks. In doing this collection-based project, Old Habits Die Hard presents cultural territories formed by expanded artistic practices, territories that surface as alternatives to mainstream exhibition and distribution channels.

Old Habits Die Hard is organized in nine video programs that each feature between three to ten videos and run for approximately one hour. The video programs will be screened at Art in General during a two-week period. The videos and catalog materials of Old Habits Die Hard will later be available at the Goethe Institute's Library, where visitors can consult the video programs individually.

As part of this program, Sparwasser HQ artists Lise Nellman (Denmark) and Heman Chong (Singapore) will join local artists' groups to discuss the contexts and practices of their artist's groups and networks.
