THE VIDEO
Unter anderen Voraussetzungen (under different conditions),
an animationfilm which is drawn with fine pencil lines, shows
an intimate scene of a caress, and generates a collective and
simultaneously very personal jolt of recognition.
The artist provides further possibilities for reflection on an
apparently familiar image with this video, which through minimal
transformations emphasises fragility and instability.

THE SPACE/COLLECTIVE
Offspace,
Offspace was founded at the beginning of 2000 as an association
to promote the visibility of works generated in the realm of
visual arts.
Offspace wants to offer a platform to young producers, which
should work as an initiating force on a local level, but also
operate within an international network.
Over three years we have managed to develop an exhibition
program, presenting solo shows of young artists, and alongside
an inherent intensity. The space, which lies in the third district
of Vienna (center), a storefront gallery of 30 m2, offers artists
the possibility to find a concentrated form of presentation through
its simplicity and small size. This often led to the quality
and effectiveness of the created shows.
The exhibition and project space, which has solely been run
by its artistic director Udo Bohnenberger (visual artist and
musician) after Andreas Huber left in summer 2002, sees itself
interdisciplinary, and often operated as a showcase for artist
bands and electronic music. This crossover is meant to be important
and inevitable for a contemporary notion of art on a visual level
and its border zones.
Offspace also participated in "Free Elections"(Self-organization
and market situation) at the State Kunsthalle Baden-Baden 2001
as well as in Liste02 in Basel 2002.
Prizes and awards were granted by the City of Vienna for the
best semi-annual program of 2001, and the sound production "songs
of suspect" received the "Colt-promotion award for
financing sound productions and recordings." offspace is
a non-commercial project supported by private sponsors and the
government: the Austrian Federal Chancellery, department for
art. This could still be possible, but nobody knows how long?
As of 2004, offspace will operate without a fixed exhibition
space, trying to develop projects in other cities.
A detailed view of past exhibitions can be gained at the continuously
updated website!
