Like a dream itself, the exhibition title "dream operator" is a suggestive, illusionary, and elusive entity. Dream Operator: un/timely narrations is a compilation of video art that creates responses in tune to our vague impressions of the term "dream operator." As a time-based medium, video inspires story telling: it opens up another realm, in which the internal logic of the narrative allows you to pass across time and space, dream and reality, memory and imagination.

The following young artists from London participate in this screening:

Aran Mann, Sleepwalk, 2000 (1:50)
Ruth MacLennan, Welcome to the Wilderness, 2000 (4:00)
Simon Woolham, Hanging out at the Lampost
Red Rock
The Skeggs Across the Way
Square Crisps
, 2001 (5: 15)
Mikko Canini, Girls Against Boys (Damien), 2001 (0:45)
Paula Wong, Spit, 2001 (4:30)
Angus Wyatt, Success, 2001
Eline McGeorge, Smoker, 2000
Mikko Canini, Girls Against Boys (Regan), 2001 (0:45)
Bernhard Frankel, Text, 2000
Lisa Fielding Smith, Super 8 Courgette, 2001 (3:00)
Mikko Canini, Girls Against Boys (Danny), 2001 (0:45)
Eline McGeorge, Ball, 2000
Lisa Prior, my talent does not lie in this area, 2000 (3:40)
Starlie Geikie, Whatever walks there walks alone, 1999
Simon Woolham, My Dad's Den
Auntie Pam's Back Garden, The Meadows, The Fight,
2001 (4:15)
Mikko Canini, Girls Against Boys (Moira), 2001 (0:45)
Paula Wong, untitled, 2001
Aran Mann, Floating, 2001 (3:00)

Mikko Canini's "Girls Against Boys" (Damien, Regan, Danny, Moira), punctuates the screening with enigmatic and menacing quotations from horror films, causing us to reach deep for memories, associations. On the other hand, Paula Wong's "Spit" and "Untitled" express interest in the language, choreography, and spaces of nothingness.

A visual delight in the image is evident in many of the video-works. For example, in Aran Mann's "Sleepwalk" and "Floating," rich imagery creates a nostalgic, dreamy quality. While both pieces give a sense of narrative or completion, the image dominates. Similarly, Simon Woolham's videos tell childhood stories and anecdotes through a series of drawings: the imagery, although detailed, reminds us of a show-and-tell game, and so we again delight in a processes of looking and seeing.
