BOX FULL OF POSTCARDS (ViennaBudapestBelgrade - three cities as one)
Definitions of national and political borders as geographical spaces
are in delay regarding our abilities to experience borderless, virtual,
trans-national spaces within lost, potential, past, present and future
territories, at once. In the present times when notions of center and
periphery, inside and outside, east and west, are continually in flux
many people find themselves in the global condition of displacement.
New nations-within-nations are being created, hybrid nations of (inner
or physical) migrants, immigrants and (ex)patriates. How does this affect
the collective unconscious? How are common patterns of memories, instincts
and experiences being rearranged to conform to new realities? What and
where are the true places? Who defines what a true place is? How can
we define our experience of a place? This project reflects on how imaginative
geography intensifies someone’s own sense of self-description. Box full
of postcards, a work in progress, presents collages of memories, documents,
souvenirs and messages from a three cities as one.
